Look Ma, I'm on TV!

In this solo episode of That Real Estate Tech Guy, Jordan Samuel Fleming dives into one of the most important shifts happening in real estate today: moving from AI as a tool to AI as a workforce.

Fresh off hosting a three-day Voice Accelerator Challenge with over 230 attendees, Jordan breaks down the key lessons, trends, and concerns that came up around voice AI. He explains why most investors are still stuck in a “tool mindset” and how the real opportunity lies in deploying AI agents as trained roles within your business, just like hiring a team member. From inbound acquisitions to lead qualification, these agents are designed to operate 24/7, ensuring no opportunity is missed.

Jordan also tackles common fears head-on, including trust, performance, and the risk of AI making mistakes. Through real-world examples and insights from smrtPhone’s data, he highlights what actually matters: structured roles, clear boundaries, and a focus on moving conversations forward. The result is a powerful new way to scale, one where every call is answered, every lead is engaged, and your business runs with consistent, round-the-clock productivity.

Hello and welcome to this week’s episode of That Real Estate Tech Guy. I’m your host, Jordan Samuel Fleming, Chairman of smrtPhone and an overall real estate enthusiast—and now, an AI enthusiast.

Today is one of those special solo episodes where I dive into something I’ve recently been working on. No guest this time, and I promise there’s a good reason for that. I’ve just wrapped up a three-day Voice Accelerator Challenge, with over 230 attendees who were eager to understand how voice AI can fit into their business.

I wanted to break down what we covered, highlight some of the key questions people asked, and talk through the trends I’m seeing. There’s a lot of curiosity around voice AI—how it can actually contribute to a business—but also a lot of concern. People worry about saying the wrong thing, turning off sellers, losing trust, or damaging deals.

That’s exactly why we ran the challenge—to introduce people to the ecosystem of agents we’ve developed at smrtPhone, and more importantly, to help shift their mindset around voice AI.

Day one was all about mindset. And yes, people often ask why we start an AI challenge with mindset—but the reality is, if you’re going to get the most out of AI, especially generative AI, you need to think differently.

We’re no longer just talking about tools. We’re talking about agents—systems that can take action and be responsible for outcomes. That’s a completely different game.

Most people are still stuck in the “AI as a tool” mindset. They’re asking, “What’s the latest tool? What should I use next?” And while there are plenty of powerful tools out there, that mindset misses the bigger opportunity.

It’s not about collecting tools. It’s about understanding how to integrate AI into your business in a way that drives real outcomes.

When you think about software, you think about something you turn on and off—something that helps you move faster. But when you think about agents, you’re thinking about something that owns a role and is responsible for results.

That’s where the real value lies.

Take voice AI agents, for example. Their value isn’t just in answering the phone. It’s in answering the phone and moving the conversation forward. If they can’t build trust or guide the next step in the seller relationship, then they’re just an answering service—or worse, a voicemail.

But when you have a highly trained agent with a clear objective and a defined path to success, that’s a completely different level of impact.

Think about how you hire people. You don’t just hire randomly—you hire for a role. You bring in an acquisitions manager, train them, and expect them to perform.

So why would you approach AI any differently?

At smrtPhone, we’ve built a Smart Agent Recruitment Center where you can hire AI agents for specific roles. That’s intentional. If agents are going to make a real impact, they need to function like trained members of your team.

When you start thinking of agents as part of your workforce—not just your tech stack—you unlock a completely different level of productivity. You now have roles that operate 24/7, consistently executing and pushing outcomes forward.

That’s not the same as using a tool. That’s building a scalable workforce.

For this challenge, we focused on one specific role: inbound acquisitions intake agents for real estate investors.

These agents are trained to answer calls instantly, qualify leads, and build that initial layer of trust. They understand property details, seller motivation, timelines, and key data points like occupancy, mortgage status, and more.

And here’s why that matters—motivation fades quickly. If you miss a call, you’re far less likely to convert that lead. By the time you call back, the urgency is gone.

Sellers don’t operate on your schedule. Someone might be stressed and ready to sell at 11 p.m., but if your phone goes to voicemail, you’ve likely lost that opportunity.

That’s why 24/7 coverage matters—but only if the agent can actually move the conversation forward.

Day two of the challenge focused on fears and concerns.

One of the biggest questions we hear is: “Will people get upset talking to AI?”

What we’ve found—both through data and real-world usage—is that people don’t mind talking to AI if it helps them get what they need. If the conversation is useful and moves them toward a solution, they’re perfectly fine with it.

But if it creates friction, they won’t tolerate it.

I shared two personal examples. One where an AI agent couldn’t help me with a simple hotel request—frustrating. And another where a voice agent handled a booking issue flawlessly—great experience.

The difference is simple: does the technology help or hinder?

Another concern is trust. Are you trying to fool people?

The answer should always be no. Transparency is critical. We always disclose that AI is being used, and our agents are designed to be honest about it.

Trust breaks the moment people feel misled. If an agent pretends to be human and gets caught, that relationship is over.

But when handled correctly, AI can actually build trust by being fast, helpful, and consistent.

People also ask if the agents sound human. The reality is, voice AI today is the worst it will ever be—it’s improving every single day. But sounding human isn’t enough anymore. That’s table stakes.

What matters is what the agent says—how well it understands its role and how effectively it moves the conversation forward.

Another major concern is hallucination or “AI lying.” This is where structure matters.

Agents must operate within clear boundaries. They need defined rules, responsibilities, and escalation paths.

For example, our intake agents are not allowed to make offers. If asked, they defer to a human team member. That’s intentional. Without those boundaries, you introduce massive risk.

If you want agents to perform well, you have to treat them like team members—train them, guide them, and define their scope.

The takeaway from both days is simple: mindset and structure.

When you combine the right mindset with the right systems, you can build a workforce that operates 24/7 with consistency and reliability.

The Voice Accelerator Challenge was a huge success. We had great engagement, strong discussions, and a lot of “aha” moments.

If you’re in a business that relies on inbound calls—especially real estate—you need to ask yourself one question:

What is every missed call costing you?

Because every missed call is a missed opportunity.

With the right voice AI agent in place, you never have to miss another call again. Every lead gets answered, every conversation gets started, and every opportunity gets a chance to convert.

Once you see it that way, it becomes obvious. Why wouldn’t you have something in place that ensures every call is handled?

We’re going to be running this challenge again soon, and I’ll be sharing details for anyone who wants to join.

In the meantime, if voice AI is something you’re curious about, reach out. Whether it’s Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or directly at smrtPhone.io—I’m happy to help you get started.

Because at this point, if you’re in real estate, you should never have another voicemail again. You should have an agent working for you 24/7, consistently handling calls, qualifying leads, and moving your business forward.

That’s where we are now—and it all starts with a shift in mindset.

Next week, we’ll be back with another guest episode, and we’ve got some fantastic conversations lined up.

Until then, thanks for listening and watching wherever you’re tuning in. I’m Jordan, your host of That Real Estate Tech Guy. Cheerio.
